Struggles at the End of the Road.
Yesterday, we recorded a sound insert of people arguing and also filmed a credit scene. We were all very happy with our project at that point. In class today, I planned on choosing the background music for the film opening but that didn't quite work out. The internet wasn't working and we focused on editing some minor flaws. Once we finished with that, we showed one of our fellow classmates, Natalie. Natalie brought something to our attention that really set us back tremendously. Natalie thought that the newspaper article didn't really convey the tone of isolation in the blue word and she said that the news articles are too similar to distinguish. This was a worry I had since I made the newspaper article. I became extremely frustrated because the defeats the whole point of our project. We asked Mrs. Stoklosa for guidance and she suggested to do a voice over to help convey that sense of isolation. We had thought before we summoned our teacher about re shooting the scene with a new newspaper article which would take us more time which we don't really have. I like the idea of the voiceover but I just worry that it will come off as cheesy. Figuring out what to say will also be a challenge. This has been on my mind ever since I got out of class and I have tremendous anxiety about this. I suggested that we do like one sentence that would leave the viewer asking questions. For example, when Violet is in the red world the voice over can say "they want us to be angry. they want chaos." and when Violet is in the blue world the voice over can be " They want to separate us." Jess didn't really like that idea but I honestly can't think of anything more. I'm very frustrated. Wish me luck.
Tune in for the final draft this week...

Let's talk about Acting
Hello!
So today, I will be talking about the most difficult part for me in this project: acting in my own film.
Acting in my own film has been sort of difficult. Obviously, this project isn't only mine; it is also my friends and group members, Jessi and Laerke's project too.
There are pros of acting in your own film. Some pros are: having the perfect vision of what you want your character to be like, executing that vision just how the group is picturing, and probably most importantly, not relying on other to be available. On my group's past projects, relying on others to be free is one of the most difficult parts of having outsiders act in the films. Only organizing with 3 people is much much easier than organizing 4-5. Also, being able to execute what my group wants without having to explain to an outsider is so much better. I know my group's vision and envisioning that helps to better to be efficient with time.
As there are pros, there are also cons. Some cons are: constant giggles, and slacking. I don't know about the other groups in my class, but I know that I am friends with my group and we all work together whether it is on a project or just as friends. The lines sometimes gets crossed and giggles and slacking is something that happens quite often. I've caught myself and my other group members talking about things that are not related to the project which effects our productivity.
These are just some "me" things that I struggled with during the filming process. For example, I struggled with not getting in character and being self conscious. I struggled a lot with being self conscious because I was thinking how stupid I looked and questioning every single little thing that I did. This especially effected me the first day of filming since I had never acted in anything before. Jess gave me a pep talk and she helped with the issue, but I was still very much in my head about it. The second day I was able to act a little better but towards the end of filming I was getting really giggly and couldn't stop laughing, I think it was because i was just tired.
Overall, my acting was okay and I feel confident that I played Violet well.
Tune in next time,
Violet, oh sorry I mean Isa.

Day 3 of Filming and Starting to Edit
Welcome to Day 3 (and hopefully the last day of filming)!
The day started in school, where we began to edit in class. We put all of the clips that we thought were best so that I could edit later in the day. This was in second period. By the time fourth period rolled around, I had finished editing the visuals of the film opening. I was impressed at how fast I edited the video and I did a pretty good job at doing so. The editing of the visuals wasn't very difficult to do because over all the shots flowed together well. But my group member viewed the video and they decided it was best to re shoot 4 shots that seemed odd.
We reshot a couple of shots because they were too dark or it seemed like they needed something in between them to make them flow just right. So, I head down to Home Depot quickly before going to Jess's and picked up an extra blue lightbulb that we needed to make the lighting in the blue world be just right.
Here is a before and after picture of the lighting with one blue bulb and then with two.
Before
After
There only a very slight difference but it is
important because it helps further establish the difference between the two worlds.
Overall, I'm very happy with the outcome so far of the visuals of the video. I'm excited to edit the sounds and the background music to the film.
To catch the final edit, Stay tuned,
Isa

Day 2 of Filming
Welcome back to the filming process!
So, tonight was pretty great. We finished filming almost everything tonight! It wasn't as difficult because Laerke was here so we had our entire group all hands on deck. Tonight's filming session wasn't as long or as difficult as yesterday's.
So yesterday, we left off where Violet storms off. Violet goes up to the french doors and she can see it is blue inside, she stands there confused looking at both of the worlds. She had never seen a blue world and she's angry and confused about what is going on. Violet goes in the blue world and looks around and then steps outside again to see it again. Then, Violet steps inside and forgets to close the door behind her so again she slowly goes outside looks and shuts the door. When violet shuts the door, she looks around one more time and see another article. She reads it and is so confused still.
And thats what we filmed yesterday.
We still have to film a scene where Violet looks up from the newspaper and walks up to the doors and look outside and its all blue now. We weren't able to film that because we need two blue lightbulbs and we don't quite have that yet. We will film that on Monday.
The next step in the journey now is editing. I'm excited to edit because last time I found that I really do enjoy editing. Its one of those things that is difficult but I enjoy doing. So I'm super excited to get to play around with all of the clips and put the opening together.
Tune in for the next stop in the journey to finishing!

Day 1 of Filming
Hey, Welcome back!!
Tonight at around 7:30ish we started the filming process. One of my group members, Laerke, couldn't make it because she was at work, but Jessi and I started filming anyways. We had set up the lights and it took us like at least 30 minutes to get the red light just perfect. After we set up it all up, we began filming.
The filming process while being the actress is one of the most difficult things. After every shot, we had to go back, review it, and move on. Also, I'd like to say I'm a silly person so there was a lot of scenes in where I'd giggle. I was taking myself too seriously. In my head, I said to myself "I probably look really stupid right now". At first I would be really hard on myself when I couldn't stop laughing. I felt like Jess wanted to kill me because she just wanted to get it done. But in reality she wasn't thinking that at all. I learned at the end, that I really can't be so hard on myself.
Anyways, it took a while to film and after, Jessica and I were incredibly exhausted. I don't know why I was so tired after that if it was only like 3 hours of filming. We made a lot of good progress even though it was just the two of us. We got the whole outside (red world) scene just tonight.
This scene basically is where the protagonist, Violet, comes home from school and goes to the backyard to relax a little bit. When Violet drops all of her stuff on the counter, she sees that there are some newspapers on the counter. Violet picks one up reads it and discards it, then she sees one that catches her eye. (Aka the one one the left). Violet gets angry because the government is taking away a right that is so important for humans. She crumples the newspaper and storms off.
In the film opening, this scene is probably going to last like 30 seconds or maybe even less. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but for a 2 minute video it is quite a lot. We made a lot of great progress today.
Tune tomorrow night to see Day 2 of filming!
